Dream Catchers

What is a Dream Catcher?

Dream catchers originated in Ojibwa culture. The Ojibwa tribe believe that the night air is filledwith dreams, both good and bad. It became widely accepted by Native Americans in the 1980s as a result of the Pan-Indian Movement in 1960s and 1970s.

The dream catcher attracts and catches all sorts of dreams, nightmares and thoughts. Good dreams can pass through the sacred hoop and the feathers act as a fluffy, pillow-like ladder that allows them to gently descend upon the sleeping person undisturbed.

Bad dreams, however, are caught up in its web which is symbolic of a spiderweb and gets destroyed, burned up in the light of day.
